Amazon.com Review Having a laminator at home is as fun as it is pragmatic. You can quickly immortalize mementos, protect recipes or IDs, and add a sense of permanence to children's artwork. Fellowes's compact 4-inch laminator is designed with just these sorts of small home projects--or some quick office work--in mind. With the ability to laminate documents up to four inches wide, the 52004's size is ideal for photos. However, the instruction sheet doesn't recommend using the "hot" setting (which is the only setting this machine has) to laminate photos. Just to check, we tried laminating a photo and it came out undamaged--but it's up to you to decide whether you want to take this risk. Despite the limited-width capacity of the laminator, it can manage documents up to 5 millimeters thick, which is remarkable for such a small machine. Using the 52004 is relatively simple: Just plug the machine in, turn it on, and wait two to three minutes for the green Ready Light to illuminate. Then, tuck the item that you wish to laminate inside a laminate pouch (a dozen of varying sizes are included) and put the pouch inside the carrier envelope (also included). The machine automatically feeds the carrier though, and your item will arrive warm and laminated on the other side. We tried laminating paper, plastic, bits of dried fruit (just to test the thickness capacity of the machine--we do not recommend using your laminator for fruit). It all came out looking great: solid adherence and no curled edges. Thicker items didn't get complete adherence immediately around the item, but that's to be expected from any laminator. The big disappointment is the product's instruction sheet, which is, to put it kindly, severely lacking. You'll get some basic operating information, a few cryptic cautions, but that's all. Luckily, the machine's operation is relatively intuitive, and there is a toll-free number to call for additional assistance. --Ariel Meadow Stallings Pros: - Heats up in 2 to 3 minutes
- Compact
- Priced for home use
Cons: - Only offers hot laminating--not recommended for photos
- Limited instruction sheet
- Machine must be attended to when plugged in

Would like to see it work... November 6, 2008 I would very much like to see this work but the starter kit promised int eh technical details did not come with it:
- Starter kit includes pouches and carrier
This is the first time I have ever had a reason to complain with Amazon.
Great Effective little Machine May 9, 2008 This laminator works like a champ! I ordered this laminator to do a last minute project, laminating 70 business cards. I used 5mm sleeves with 2 business cards in each. I did all 70 in a continous session and this machine never faltered; no overheating, no jamming, no issues. All came out looking great and completely sealed. I am especially happy that this laminator does not require the use of an additional carrier - just send the sleeve through.
Great for picture IDs!!! April 15, 2008 I make many photo IDs for hospitals and it works perfect with the GBC laminators. You have to put it all the way high to make it work with IDs, if you have it on the other two settings, it will not laminate well. The power button is very nice, a strong feature. Lastly, you don't have to use cardboard to laminate photos or pictures, another strong reason you should buy this for your office. In addition, the form factor is perfect for a small desk, it's not bulky and big.
Awesome, does what it's supposed to do... October 10, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My title pretty much says it all. I bought this product because of it's description, and what I needed it for (small ID cards). So if a product delivers what it promises - aces in my book.
laminating at home beats a trip to a strip mall. October 2, 2007 We have found this product very useful as we frequently need to laminate items such as ID cards and luggage tags.
