4 out of 5 stars Great home office or small business laminator   November 18, 2008
I have had one of these for over ten years. I've used several cartridges and it is still working like new. I don't do a tremendous amount of laminating, but for what I do, it is super. The only minuses I have for it are that it crinkles the laminating if you go too fast or are not careful, and I have to really think when I load a new cartridge to get it right. If this one ever breaks, I'd buy another one in a minute.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Laminator!   November 16, 2008
I've owned this product for many years and have gone through several of the easy to install cartridges. I've also owned heat laminators which use pre-sized pouches for each job. While the finished product of heat lamination is more impressive, I find that the "soft" lamination of the 3M system is much better for everyday use. I found that many of the items I laminated were for temporary use, so I couldn't justify the time and money of buying another heat laminator.

As for ease of use and reliability, you would be hard pressed to find better.

1 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE!!!   October 26, 2008
Sure it makes nice laminated sheets, etc. IF you can get it to work. This POS machine is EXCEEDINGLY difficult to load the cartridges into properly. There is a 5 step pictograph telling you how it's done which bares only a loose asscoiation with reality. I have spent hours and wasted yards of the expensive plastic just trying to get it loaded just right, and to answer the next question, NO my unit is not defective, and I do lots of detail work wt my hands so I am NOT a klutz wt 10 thumbs. The plastic ends up coming through the feeder misaligned and bubbled every time. Btw, don' try to find any help online with tips for loading this thing because there AREN'T any. Of course if you are lucky enough to eventually GET it loaded it does work well after that, until the cartridge runs out again...

Also, because the glue is active on the plastic all the time (not heat activated like other systems) you better shave your whole body down and work in a clean room because every stray hair or piece of lint in your home will end up embedded in your laminating projects(at least they do in mine).

Last note, when it does laminate properly the side edges leave a tiny border, roughly 1/16th of an inch. I would have prefered at least an 1/8 inch boarder, which I could trim down if needed.

If feel very bad about leaving such a terrible review for what is a good product when it works but there you go...

5 out of 5 stars Great for kids stuff   September 30, 2008

Only had this for a few weeks, but the kids love it. We were looking for a way to protect their masterpieces and other fun arts/crafts projects. The fact that it doesn't use heat is awesome. Seals nicely and is very easy to use. Consumables are a bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it. Definitely safer to have around the kids, and no waiting for a warm up.

5 out of 5 stars So easy, so nice!   July 24, 2008

I used my laminater for the first time today and was very happy with it. It worked smoothly straight out of the box. I would definitely recommend it. It comes with a 15 ft roll of laminating paper; the refills are 100 ft.
